Chains of the Constitution began as a bi-weekly
newspaper column of political and cultural commentary, written by Dave Neuendorf from a conservative/libertarian perspective. Beginning in 1994, Dave wrote a new column every other week, publishing it in the Aurora, Indiana Journal-Press under the name Conserving the Balance. The online version has been renamed Chains of the Constitution, a reference to Thomas Jefferson’s 1798 remark, “In questions of power then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
Dave has been an active conservative since the Goldwater presidential campaign, when he had an AuH2O bumper sticker on his bicycle. With degrees in chemistry and materials science/engineering, he now plies his trade as a Java software development consultant. He has a deep love for the kind of freedom that can come only from a proper balance between government power and individual autonomy.
